We love our holidays with the kids, but winter holidays can take a bit more planning with the cooler days & evenings. So here are our top 5 Winter Outings with Kids on a Shoestring!
1) Strawberry Picking
We LOVE strawberry picking each winter, the kids can pick their favourite big red juicy strawberries, see where their fruit comes from, and taste what farm fresh fruit really tastes like! Plus it’s just fun. Our 2 favourite Strawberry Farms are Strawberry Fields and McMartins Farm at Bli Bli.
2) Serenity Falls.
Be transported to a beautiful waterfall right in the middle of suburbia. For an easier walk, start at the top at Quorn Close and walk down, for a longer walk park at the bottom and walk up. We often take a scavenger hunt list and a snack to have down the bottom. If you prefer to stay on concrete paths with prams, but still love to get out head to Maroochydore Botanic Gardens and take a wander through the sculpture garden. For more kid-friendly hikes, there’s more on our blog.
3) Maleny Dairy.
We always love getting out into all that fresh country air. You can turn up just for a cup of coffee or snack in their outdoors cafe overlooking the farmland while the kids play a giant game of chess. Or book into one of their tours of the farm to learn more about the process of how dairy gets from the farm to the table. When you’re done head on up to Maleny shops and grab something from the local bakery. You won’t be disappointed. See our Maleny Dairy post here
Every few days explore a new park (or an old favourite), invite some friends and spend the morning there. Our favourites often have paths or skate-parks nearby so there is something for every age. Check out our blog of our favourite parks on the coast here.
5) Bike Tracks.
Take the bikes and head to one of the many bike-tracks along the water or inland. We love the BMX Track at Landsborough or Yandina, or if that’s not your thing take a ride around the paths at Ewen Maddock Dam right near the BMX track at Landsborough.
And don’t forget we live surrounded by ocean! Head down to the beach on those warm days and just wander around the rocks or build sandcastles. The fresh air & ocean breeze always works wonders for everyone.
