Once a year, Queensland Air Museum in Caloundra opens its doors to the public where you can put yourself in the Pilot’s seat for their Open Cockpit Weekend!

The kids will love climbing through more than 20 planes and helicopter cockpits, putting on the seat-belt and pretending they are pilots – including the well-known fighter jet F-111! You will also find over 75 of Australia’s historic aircrafts at this family friendly event.

With an interactive display, older kids can simulate a real flight and see if they can land without crashing!

It’s a fun event for ages, run by enthusiastic volunteers (over 100 were there today!) so make sure you stop for a chat. Many volunteers are ex-pilots and one volunteer we met had his plane shot down in the Vietnam jungle, another fixed the plane, then they had to fly it out of the jungle!

You will find numerous food, ice-cream and coffee stalls (we can vouch for the ‘Express Beans’ Coffee and ‘That Pizza Guy” pizza!) and some great music.

Open Cockpit weekend at the Queensland Air Museum is on THIS weekend!
